Overview
Welcome to Malalco - our 6-day horseback expedition across a remote 20,000-hectare ranch in northern Patagonia. Just 2.5 hours from San Martín de los Andes, this is where the mountains open up and time slows down. Riding between 3 to 7 hours a day, we follow ancient trails through ever-changing terrain: volcanic slopes, Araucaria forests, wide rivers, hidden lakes, and high-altitude plateaus. All with Volcán Lanín watching in the distance.
Along the way, we rest at remote, fully equipped camps. Each one offers glamping-style tents, hot showers, and honest, hearty Patagonian meals cooked over fire. Midway through the journey, we swap horses for a boat and cross a southern lake, spending the afternoon on a quiet beach. Here, there’s time for fly fishing, resting, and simply soaking it all in.
The experience is limited to 10 people, so whether you're coming solo or with friends, this is a shared adventure that feels personal from the start. If you’d prefer to ride fewer days, we can adapt the itinerary to match your rhythm.
This is Patagonia as we know it: raw, remote, and unforgettable.
Getting Here
The best way to reach El Malalco Experience is to fly from Buenos Aires to San Martín de los Andes (Chapelco Airport). From there, the adventure begins.
We’ll arrange a private transfer to the ranch, which takes about 2.5 hours. The drive itself is part of the experience, you’ll follow rivers, weave through forests, and slowly settle into the rhythm of Patagonia.
If you’re considering alternative ways to get here, just reach out. We’re always happy to help you plan your journey and make sure getting here feels like part of the experience.

Season

These are the summer months in Patagonia, the only time of year when conditions allow for multi-day camping in the wild. Days are long and dry, blue skies, and nights lit by stars. Trails are open and lakes are perfect for swimming. The best window to live the adventure.
Summer (Dec–Feb)
Day: 20–30 °C | Night: 5–10 °C
Long days under a strong mountain sun. We ride early, break for riverside lunches, and end the day in the cool evening air.
